Jul. 27th, 2009 06:11 pmI am so proud of Guinness today. :)
We went to the church (with permission) and practiced with the wheelchair. I wanted to do this at the church because they have nice wide hallways, an elevator, and they'd be relatively deserted this week. So we spent about an hour rolling up and down hallways, rode in the elevator a few times and hopped down to the office to thank the staff.
It took a few tries, but he did really well. He's learning to walk alongside the chair, not pulling and not jumping in front, and laying down and taking a break when I stay still for a while. He's learning to let the chair go through doorways first. He's already figured out he prefers to lay down on elevators, but he doesn't freak out about them. He loved the ramps in the hallways, since we could go zooming down those at a pretty fast clip. He also responded really well to the church staff, even the ones who weren't comfortable around a dog.
Overall, for his first outing with the chair he did great. I'll keep working on it this week, and next week when I'm stuck in this contraption he should be comfortable enough with it that I can still take him places.
