Picking the right wheels

The chair I'm using now is a rental. We're planning on buying me a manual chair with the tax refund, and using the prescription and the insurance to cover an electric chair once the insurance supplement kicks in.

So it's research time.

Does anyone have advice on picking good wheelchairs? Any good/bad/ugly stories to share? Any brands we need to stay away from, or absolutely must get? I'd love to hear some recommendations!
