Well, crud.

I thought I'd found a place for us. Then I told the listing agent I had an assistance dog, but according to federal and state law that shouldn't be a problem. Suddenly the unit was rented out by another agent and the company doesn't have anything else in our price range.

I'm tempted to drive by and see if the place really is occupied, and file a housing discrimination lawsuit if it's not. Because yes, I *am* that much of a bitch, thankyouverymuch.

Today was my lost day to meds. Tomorrow is getting all the medical records. We'll find a place.

call your local agencies RIGHT NOW and tell them this
just what you said here.
ok, well in the morning.

and if they dont have people who have a signed lease before you call, then you have proof of a problem.. but if you wait it gets harder.

and thats NOT being a bitch Deza....
thats not being a doormat
go YOU!
and if its not an honest mistake i know a gator farm in florida we can tour with that real estate agent

oh, and legal or not.... next time do not mention service dog until papers are signed

look... hun.. can i do anything?

i will be vending at darkover (maryland) thanksgiving weekend.
i spoke with hubby. he says if you can come up (dog, kids, you. right?) we can ask the hotel for a handicapped room (its bigger) and you could crash in with us. you just pay for meals and your travel...
we need to know, though since the room we have booked is not big enough for the whole zoo

NO!!

Don't call them and give them time to cover their asses.
Pardon my language, but fuck that shit.
I have seen people get screwed over too many times when they let the bad guys see them coming.
You know what I mean? I mean no disrespect to and agree with all but that one little detail of what she said.
Definitely contact the ...is it the civil liberties union? americans with disabilities reps? Whomever... but get THEM to investigate. This is what they are paid for.
There was a commercial of just this sort of thing that used to be on all the time.. I wish I could remember the site!

not the landlord.. the law....

Ah, gotcha! That makes sense. I totally thought you meant landlord. And like I said, the only part I disagreed with was that.
Too many times I have been walked all over, and seen others walked all over because I/they didn't want to be a bitch... and so many get referred to as such when they DO stand up for themselves... but that is so not the case. (and even if it is, in a sense, it is deserved by the party being "bitched at")

I don't see what being a bitch has got to do with standing up for your rights. You're probably right. They probably have decided they don't want any dogs. And that being the case, they should be brought to task.

Being a bitch would be to get your friend to ring up and get *this* close to signing the papers, before serving them with the discrimination suit :oP

I couldn't find the ad I was talking about, but there seems to be some info at the bottom of this article which could be quite useful!

I would think the base housing office should be willing to help file that complaint.

Definitely file a complaint! You might even enlist a friend to call the realtor and act interested in the property. That may tell you if it is rented or not.

That's totally not a bitchy thing; it's something that I think I'd do in your situation.

I hope, sincerely, that it wasn't a discrimination thing. I mean, I know it sucks if the unit was just lost because someone else got it, but the other options are so much worse because then that means people suck even more than normal.
