Question of the Day: If you're a writer, what are the themes in your writing? (It's a meme going around.) If you're not, what themes would you like to see explored more in your favored brand of fiction.. or what are you sick of seeing?

I haven't been writing as much as I should lately, but there are some things that have carried through for years.

• Violent sex, and sex does not mean love.
• No one is what they appear to be when you first meet them.
• Innocents must lose their innocence to survive.
• The world will screw you over if given half a chance.
• There is no happily ever after.

obviously this indicates a serious skewing of my own world view, and not towards the Department of Happiness and Light.
