I'm still losing hair. Yay. I've got one scarf now to cover the loss, but let's face it--I'm a girl (shocking, I know) and I like to feel pretty. I'm hoping once the current money crunch eases up, we can afford for me to get some nice tubans, head wraps, maybe even a wig or two.

Since this is still in the dreaming phase, give me some ideas. Would it be totally ridiculous for a woman just shy of 40 to wear some wild colored wigs? What styles flatter a round face? Is it true blondes have more fun? Is a scarf cap really necessary? I'd also love links to reputable dealers, if you know of any.

Thank you, LJ fairies!

No, it makes perfect sense to me. That comes up in the comm I mentioned. As a rule, Muslim hijab (and this is why I say al-Amira and khimar won't be readily adaptable) covers *the neck* and part of the chest (khimar comes lower down), as well as -- for most observant Sunni, at least -- covering ALL hair.

Many Shi'ite women (and Sufis) don't cover quite as much; I'm a lousy example because I have a hard time just keeping it on my head :P.

The fact is if you have anything on your head, people are going to assume. You'd think it would be obvious -- and to most people who might not even know the distinction, it IS obvious when someone's hijabi versus when they're just wearing a scarf.
