wigging out

I'm still losing hair. Yay. I've got one scarf now to cover the loss, but let's face it--I'm a girl (shocking, I know) and I like to feel pretty. I'm hoping once the current money crunch eases up, we can afford for me to get some nice tubans, head wraps, maybe even a wig or two.
Since this is still in the dreaming phase, give me some ideas. Would it be totally ridiculous for a woman just shy of 40 to wear some wild colored wigs? What styles flatter a round face? Is it true blondes have more fun? Is a scarf cap really necessary? I'd also love links to reputable dealers, if you know of any.
Thank you, LJ fairies!

Rock out something different. That's what I did, and it HAS lifted my spirits (even shaving my head, although terrifying, is starting to make me feel better - because I controlled the loss before it could completely control me).
I got my wigs right here (http://www.voguewigs.com/), and again, I love them. Decent prices (mostly), realistic textures, and quick shipping (I received mine in four days). So I'd definitely recommend them.
You deserve to have something fun like a pretty wig in your life. I'd say go for it! *hugs*

ETA...links you might be able to use for scarves and headwraps:
All but one of these are really for hijab. However, shayla and shawl styles can be adapted to be just headscarves (al-amara, niqab, khimar: probably not.

Very good prices.

They have these gorgeously coordinated sets, lots of stuff can be adapted.

There is nothing on their site I wouldn't wear...

Non-Islamic, lots of pretty textiles.
Hope this helps on the do-rag side of things :)...

Date: 2009-12-18 10:28 pm (UTC)Many Shi'ite women (and Sufis) don't cover quite as much; I'm a lousy example because I have a hard time just keeping it on my head :P.
The fact is if you have anything on your head, people are going to assume. You'd think it would be obvious -- and to most people who might not even know the distinction, it IS obvious when someone's hijabi versus when they're just wearing a scarf.

Some places knit and donate caps for people Like this place.

Date: 2009-12-18 06:57 pm (UTC)(I wish I could donate my hair; it's far too long anyway -- but my hair is fragile and damaged so probably not any good for this.)
FWIW, I think this should be followed up on, if a wigmaker could be found...

Date: 2009-12-18 09:15 pm (UTC)Due to our current situation, I'd have no idea where to even start looking for a wig maker. I'd be honored if you'd continue on your original plan and get it to a charity, so it could go on to someone in more desperate need. *hugs*
